- The History of Paddys
Born and raised in Tralee, County Kerry, played Gaelic Football for Austin Stacks in Tralee. He came to America in August 1986 and played for Kerry at Gaelic Park in New York City. He spent two years working in New York City as a Bartender and was also a member of the Teamsters Union working in the moving industry.
In July 1988, Mike went to Marco Island, Florida for a brief vacation. He fell in love with Marco so much he decided to stay and went to work as a Bartender at Septembers Night Club which was owned by Paddy McDonagh from Galway.
Paddy gave him the nickname "Moose" because of his 6ft 5in, 230lb frame, and the two have been close friends ever since. Putting his experience in the moving industry to work, Mike started Irish Brogue Moving Company in January 1990 along with his longtime friend Alan Kelly from Dublin. In 1996, John McNaboe moved to Marco from New York and began working for Irish Brogue Movers and also bartended at Septembers night club with Mike
Over the next two years the two became close friends and eventually in 1998 they opened Paddy Murphy's Irish Pub on 5th Avenue in Downtown Naples. Mike is married to the lovely Mary Jo from Roundstone, Connemara, Co. Galway. He has three children, Michael, Sean, and Shannon.
